7/14/10: running like crazy

July 14, 2010

Wow what to say first off I’m writing this mid day from my phone so it will be short and sweet.

The past few days I have been all over the east coast, I left northern AR yesterday and now after driving all the way across TN I am in VA where I need to deliver today. I’ve been sleeping at the rest stops and when stopping for fuel grabbing my showers. It’s been hectic just trying to get here on time. I picked up this load too late an have been pushing hard to make sure it’s here on time.

I get to come home on the 27th so that’s cool, will be there for a week off. So far I am 24 days deep into being out and over half of that is east coast running.

7/10/10: Cleaning like an idiot. haha

July 10, 2010

So I decided to finally scrub the floors in this truck tonight. when I first got the truck, it had mud everywhere, which is fine, I took the shop vac and vacuumed it out, but it always just looked dirty, so tonight, while in 80 degree weather, and 80% humidity decided its time to clean it good, or at least better.  I broke out a scrubber and a bucket I bought at WalMart, put some soap and water in there and went to town.  I had to look like a crackhead out in this heat, but I dont care because after scrubbing for a good hour the floor looks awesome.

As I went over to the fuel isle to get a bit more water, I noticed another W/S driver parked in the back, so I picked up my stuff and started walking that way, he must have felt I was coming direct to him because immediately he ducked behind his curtains leaving his laptop and everything out on the seat, I knocked and he opened his window a tiny bit, I am like I am not here to shine your chrome, I explained I wanted to say hi and asked if he was the driver I was talking to coming up here, since I got split off when I got fuel.  His whole demeanor changed as soon as he figured I didn’t want anything from him, it was actually pretty funny.  I said my hi then told him I gotta get back to cleaning, and left it at that.

This weekend up into Tuesday they have me on a loop run, I was supposed to be getting home this week but that never happened so I accepted it and went on, I made my first drop at our Richmond, Ky terminal (that place is tiny) then took another empty trailer and booked it up to just outside Cincinnati, which is where I am staying tonight, I figure I have three more days to make Arkansas, so I am not in any huge hurry, I will get there early just not two days.  Anyway tomorrow I pickup a load of Light Bulbs from GE and head to WalMart to drop this trailer, when I am done with that, hopefully I will get routed out to Conover for furniture, those runs are nice and take a week.  I figured since I am stuck out here might as well get some miles and a few more days put into it so I can take a week off instead of 3 days.

7/9/10: Dalton, GA, where the BBQ at?

July 9, 2010

So jokingly I am stuck in Dalton, GA.  I am having two fuel check valves replaced on my fuel lines, and then leaving tomorrow morning for Kentucky.  Seems like the next few days are drop and hooks, so thats easy, quick miles.  Two more weeks then I will come back in and relax for a week.  Gonna be nice.

I was supposed to be home by the 15th for an appt, but that just isn’t physically gonna happen, which I guess is fine, because that means more days off when I do come back.

I made a pot roast with potatoes and corn on the cobb last night, wow that was good, I have left over meat so I can use it for nachos and other stuff to now.  My last trip out shopping I kinda went over board, my freezer is packed to the max and so is the fridge.  But I am getting better about my shopping, buying more fruits and veggies.  Also got some salad action going on too.

7/5/10: Im here!! Carlisle, Pa.

July 5, 2010

And it stinks here lol.  No its like 100 degrees out with the humidity which is combining to peel the piss smell off the asphault,  Oh man it smells like urine all over the place out here.  Really nasty anyway I made it today but got stuck on the Turnpike for about an hour due to an accident 10 miles up.  Kinda sucks but whatever I still made good time, my delivery is at 8Am local time (3 hours difference so I gotta be up around 4 to make it 5 miles down the road).

I found out today that my gas milage wasnt as bad as I thought it was, turns out im only using one of my tanks, which is bad, but at the same time atleast I know it wasnt me.  It clogs up and doesnt drain from one to the other, so I have a full tank on the passenger side and nothing on the drivers.  I didnt find that out till today when I went to actually fill them both up, the passenger tank only took a minute to fill, a bit quick for 125 gallon tanks.  Its either a clogged breather or a clog in the crossover line.  I am just gonna baby it to the shop and get them to fix it.  I may tap on the breather a few times or something to see if it clears up that way, but not too worried about it right now.

Anyway I am tired, I just finished my laundry and ate dinner, I think a movie is in order then bed time, thank God for this APU, PA is a anti idle state, so I can run it and be legal, theres a cop parked across the street, wouldn’t surprise me if he started writing tickets out here. These states are hurting for revenue and we are big easy targets.

7/4/10: London, OH

July 4, 2010

Well I have been driving like crazy the past few days, after a minor detour today to skip major holiday traffic I am now 350 miles from my drop due on Tuesday.  Which means tomorrow will be an early quick day.  Not sure yet if its the truck or just due to wind and hills but im swallowing fuel like crazy,  I have had to grab fuel once already and again tomorrow morning, only 50 gallons but if I dont, Its not cheaper to get fuel to a truck broke down.  So I am doing what I gotta do.

6/30/10: Another day and more runs.

June 30, 2010

This morning I got woke up by the tire mechanic, he wanted to give me some new rubber.  So I got dressed and obliged.  I got 8 brand new tires this morning, then got my list into the shop.  In the mean time I got a call from my dispatcher for the Montana area, he wanted me to run some flour for him.  So I picked up another volvo and headed for Great Falls, MT.  Its only 90 miles each way, so I ran up there got a load of flour and ran it back to Helena, MT.  Later on I found out I was going back up for another load,  but this time it was my own.  I got back to Helena and got my truck back, hopefully all the issues are worked out now, the jake brakes are defiantly working right but they do have an exhaust leak to go with them.  And the motor feels amazing, its got so much power I am pulling hills like it should be.  I am now on a run from Great Falls, MT to Carlisle, PA.  Thats a good 2100 miles, and gets me through the holiday weekend.

Personally I dont like going into the North East (PA), the roads back there are kinda crappy as far as highway systems and such, but I dont turn anything down so I am on it.

Had a few funny things happen today, never a dull moment.  First off thanks to Scott for cruizing up to Great Falls on my second trip again, I know you had to go that way but at the same time it was a nice drive up, however Scott did provide the entertainment for a bit.  You know the guy who forgets to open his doors before he docks.  hehe yea Scott did that today, now we all have days where this happens, hell today I forgot my tires were chocked and tried to pull away when they were done loading me.  Atleast we were both able to laugh about it and get it resolved quick, he pulled up we opened them and they loaded us up quick.

More on the new vs. old.  heres some quick stats.

2005 Volvo
Volvo Motor
Eaton 10 Speed Automatic Transmission

Cummings Motor
Eaton 10 Speed Manual Transmission
Tripack APU Unit (Heat/Air/Generator)

I ended up removing a cabinet out of the new one also, I liked how my fridge and microwave were setup, and this truck has additional storage on it, even though I loose alot under the sleeper, on the front above the driver and passenger seats instead of being just a shelf like my old one this one has two cubby cabinets and double storage across the middle up front.  It makes it seem a tad smaller in here but actually I gained what I lost when I removed the cabinet, and my previous truck I had even less cabinet space so this is an upgrade.  The only thing that sucks, but I defiantly cant complain about is the under bunk storage where I used to keep alot of stuff is taken up with APU stuff (Intake/ blower and such) but I would rather have that APU over the storage space!

6/29/10: Love my truck not its new issues.

June 29, 2010

I get to start over again, fixing another trucks issues!  Today I thought it was good to go, I just did a 330 mile run and found all the stuff that needs to be done to it now.  It has some mechanical difficulties that need to be fixed.  So I am in Helena tonight and hopefully they can bang this thing out tomorrow morning for me.
